Being members, Betsy and I go to Whipsnade Zoo a lot (London Zoo too, sometimes) and on Friday we decided to have one last trip up there together before Amazatron arrives. Obviously, when a zoo is so open and spacious as Whipsnade (nice, big enclosures too), it helps if the weather is at least dry, but this time around we were surrounded by thick fog. Although we couldn’t see the lovely Dunstable Downs, the fog did add a sense of wonder and mysticism to the park.
Of course the first thing Betsy wanted to see were the giraffes (as always) and lucky for us we had the baby and another giraffe right next to where we were standing.
We also visited the new Hullabazoo Farm where Betsy was quite taken with the pygmy goats (and the softplay next door is the best I’ve ever been to) and took great pleasure in spying the lovely free-roaming maras around the zoo.
It’s odd to think that next time we’ll be there it should (hopefully) be sunny and there will be a new baby in tow too. I wonder what animal this little one will always want to see first?
