A few weeks ago the family and I popped down to the South Bank to do what is our now annual visit to Monski Mouse’s Baby Disco Dancehall. We’ve been the two previous years and have always loved it, the DJ Monica (Monski Mouse herself) plays a great selection of music that gets everyone dancing.
I have to admit Dave and I weren’t really in the mood to travel all the way into town. I was recovering and overtired from the previous day’s Blogtacular and Dave was recovering and overtired from looking after two children for 18 and a half hours on his own. But Betsy was well up for it and chose her bridesmaid dress to wear at the event because it was her best dress to dance in.
I’m so glad we went though. As always, there are a million things to do along that part of the Thames, Betsy and I particularly enjoyed running around Simon & Tom Bloor’s Lundus Folly and Dave had a most excellent hog roast from the food market behind the Royal Festival Hall (I ate a Korean pork burrito thing with kimchi rice).
And then there was the Baby Disco itself. Taking place in the beautiful Paradiso Spiegeltent, nothing – nothing – lifts the spirits like seeing your child racing to the front of the dance floor, spinning and dancing right next to the DJ booth as soon as she hears the music as we walk through the door. Soon we were all dancing along to a great range of music that we all enjoyed (no mean feat with Dave and I, we are polar opposites when it comes to the music we listen to).
One of the things we love about coming here is that it’s not overly busy and there’s space to move and run around and it’s ok if the kids run off a bit because you’re still able to keep an eye on them. I really liked the fact that Arthur had lots of space to crawl around at the back and to the side without getting in danger of being trampled on. Everyone who is there is super friendly too, from the people who work the door, to the dancers and Monski and all the other parents visiting.
I did a little film of our day out which you can see below, stupidly I forgot to change my camera battery from the previous day and the camera conked out halfway through the day. Humph.
Monski Mouse’s Baby Disco Dancehall is on every Sunday at London Wonderground until the 27th September. It’s so much fun I’m hoping to go along later this summer with my sisters and nephew and niece! You should to!
