It snowed over the weekend. Nothing makes our hearts gladder around here than being outside with snowflakes falling around us. When I woke up on Saturday morning and looked out of the window, I knew there was one place I wanted to be that day – Myddelton House Gardens. So I made some flasks of hot chocolate and coffee and packed some treats and headed out.
As it was snowing and very, very cold, we had the whole gardens to ourselves, which is just how we like it. Betsy and I have been talking about signs of spring for a few weeks now and we looked for all the blossom coming into bloom and delighted in all the spring flowers that were everywhere.
We found our favourite bench for a break and supped our drinks.
Oreos are currently celebrating The Great Oreo Cookie Quest – though the on-pack promotion you could win a trip to California. To have some fun with our cookies on our trip out, Betsy and I took turns to hide the biscuits in the gardens for the other to find. An early easter egg hunt! Except without the eggs, or it being easter, but such good fun. There is something about these types of games. They help to slow you down, to notice what is around you just a little bit more – the buds coming up through the soil, the lichen growing on the very old stone – and being able to do that together with family is invaluable.
Also anything that helps us to forget about our cold toes for just a little longer is a very fine thing indeed.
