Living Arrows

The kiddos and I took a trip to the South Bank Centre yesterday. I had the aim of joining in Fun DMC, a hip-hop block party for families, which was taking place in the ballroom of the Royal Festival Hall as part of the Imagine festival. The children had other ideas however. Betsy found it to be a bit too busy for her (and it was, it was a very popular event) so after a spot of lunch in a corner we explored the rest of the RFH. Arthur took the lead, enjoying not being strapped in after the trip into town, running free. There is lots happening in there while Imagine happens (now sadly ended for this year), lots of workshops and events including a lovely looking storytelling session that took place on a giant bed. Not that we got too see any of it as all Art wanted to do was go up one flight of stairs and down another. It was rather exhausting!

Our friend Joe came an joined us as we walked along the river and we even found a quiet spot for Betsy and Joe to play shops and Art to explore – the red light boxes next to the National Theatre are an excellent spot, perfect for climbing and running (and sitting and watching too). I have promised Betsy I will take her there again, but just us two, so she can explore what she wants and have a good long sit and read in the children’s poetry library in the RFH, something she really wanted to do, but couldn’t as we spent most of our time Arthur chasing.

The above photos are from our little trip. Betsy in her Jessie costume, taking her role very seriously on the Tube and Arthur next to the National Theatre, that face full of joy because he just spotted a bus travelling over Waterloo Bridge.

  1. Sounds like the festival had some lovely activities for kids, shame you couldn’t explore the bits Betsey wanted. I love that Jessie costume. She looks very stern in that photo. #livingarrows.
